Formal education is important, but in my opinion, too slow in keeping up with the daily breakthroughs in the world of technology. College will never be fully capable to keep up with the rhythm of the IT world, and thus will only partially prepare you for real-life, dynamic scenarios in this area. This is why it’s imperative to train independently using state of the art technologies and a real work environment if possible. For me, Gigi School of Coding was the best opportunity to have this experience and kickstart my IT career. It is a four-month journey of learning and improving in both technical and non-technical skills of a future engineer. Honestly, I thought I wouldn’t be able to cope with 4 months of full-time engagement, but I got used to it so quickly I couldn’t imagine my days without being there. During these 4 months, I continuously learned about every part of the software development lifecycle. Our main focus was the MERN stack, but we also learned the basics of QA, DevOps, Project management and UI/UX, amongst other things. This broadness of the curriculum definitely helped me reaffirm my desires about the future of my career. Besides the technical improvement, I gained self-confidence in the use of my everyday English language, as well as my ability to present in front of bigger audiences. Perhaps something of equal importance; I made lifelong friends with like-minded, positive and energetic people, eager to learn. If you’re looking for a program to fire-up your career, but also a place to enjoy yourself and learn from industry-experienced mentors, I encourage you to apply asap.
